There are a bunch of ways to play with sound on the level of the individual wave cycle. The "modulators" folder in Phase Plant’s wavetable generator contains several shapes which can be used to achieve well-known wave warping results, and beyond that, the sky’s the limit. Use amplitude, phase, frequency, or ring modulation and see what effects you can have on your base wave cycle. Modulate the modulator for compounding chaos.
Before you even start to use audio effects, dig into the waveform itself and bend that puppy out of shape.
