DAW Cassette brings back the magic era of the 1980:s by emulating the sound of a tape deck. Saturation, distortion, noise, wobble, it’s all there. While there’s no real rational logic to it, the sound color gives us chills down the spines, (or it might be the mullet haircut that tickles). Fresh. Choose your preferred level of cassetteness with the different controls for input/output gain, tape/motor/head quality and tape/noise type.

ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960’s invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company’s founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

Academy Of Tone #41: modern metal sounds – AMP1 Iridium vs Peavey 6505, ENGL Fireball, Randall Dimebag and more! PLUS understanding gates and cleaning up your signal. Guest Martin Stoll @Musiker Board
On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas and Manni Zewe are back, and this time they’re making modern metal sounds with the AMP1 Iridium Edition! Manni does sounds from Gojira, Pantera and more, and the guys A/B the Iridium against three ‘modern classic’ metal amps: the Peavey 6505 mini head, the ENGL Fireball, and the Randall Dimebag Darrell model! Thomas also shows that the Mercury Edition (with a little help from a Rangemaster) can be the perfect choice for classic metal sounds like Black Sabbath.
Also on the show, the guys give Manni’s noisy metal guitars a bit of TLC and discuss the ins and outs of noise gates – including the built-in noise gate on the AMP1 Iridium Edition – and how to get a good, clean signal when you’re playing super high gain! We ask: why do some people use 2 gates? And test out the Horizon Devices Precision Drive against some classic Tubescreamer models.
PLUS, Thomas has an interview chat (in English!) with Martin Stoll, one of the head honchos at Musiker-Board – the biggest German-language forum for guitar gear fans with over 250,000 members! Thomas and martin discuss the 2021 NAMM Show news, gear, and of course the Musiker-Board.

Note: this week’s Academy Of Tone IS NOT LIVE! This episode was prerecorded. However, we will be online to chat with you guys during the Video Premiere in the YouTube chat 🙂 See you there!
