Ruby J Acoustic Guitar Lesson: Try on Acoustic Guitar | ELIXIR Strings

Arranging songs for solo acoustic guitar often involves having to come up with a rhythmic approach that gives the song some energy, along with some harmonic flourishes to fill things out underneath a vocal. By doing that, you can accompany yourself without a band and still sound great!

In this easy video lesson, Elixir Strings artist Ruby J demonstrates exactly that approach with her song Try. While the recorded version features a full band with horn section, Ruby’s solo acoustic take relies largely on muted strumming patterns, hammer-on/offs in the left hand to add some single note “trills” and then a double time chorus section. None of the individual elements are too difficult to learn, even for beginners – but put them all together and they’re super-useful for singer-songwriters!

Explaining why she’s such a fan of Elixir Strings on his acoustic guitars, Ruby says, “Elixir Strings sound beautiful, they feel really great and they last me for ages. I love them!”
