Mike x Zuniga Electric Bass Lesson: Triplet Feel Slap For Electric Bass | ELIXIR Strings

Versatility is key for any bass player wanting to work in diverse situations and styles. It’s something that’s often displayed by gospel players who blend pop, r’n’b and rock influences and a variety of different techniques. Worship bass player and Elixir Strings artist Mike x Zuniga is just that kind of player – equally at home in church, on arena stages or in the studio, and well-versed in myriad playing styles.

In this short video lesson, Mike takes you through a slowed-down section of one of his recent Instagram Reel performances of "Coritos Medley" by Miel San Marcos which, in the space of 60 secs combines slapping, unison lines with the horn section, walking basslines, a quick double-time part and some beautiful fills. The slap part he demonstrates here opens the tune in style and although the triplet feel might take some getting used to, even intermediate players will be able to get their heads and fingers around it in time!

Explaining why he’s such a fan of Elixir Strings on both his electric and acoustic guitars, Mike says, “Elixir is the best string company in the business. They are tried and true and provide long lasting tone. I use them on all my basses.”
