Derek Jones Bass Guitar Lesson – Get Bass And Drums In Sync | ELIXIR Strings

In this short bass guitar video tutorial, Elixir Strings artist Derek Jones takes a super simple bassline and shows you how to approach syncing tightly with the kick drum. Note duration and space between notes comes into play here, particularly in slower songs. It’s a very simple concept, but one that takes some serious practice to perfect!

Derek’s go-tos are Elixir Bass Strings for the consistency of tone, feel and long tone life. Check them out: https://www.elixirstrings.com/guitar-strings#bass

The foundation of most great bands – from rock power trios to funk outfits with horn sections and multiple backing singers – is the rhythm section. Bass and drums need to work in lockstep to provide the feel and groove the rest of the band can play off. No amount of tricky technique or impressive chops can make up for a rhythm section that can’t play together.
