In this episode of My First Gibson, Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of Halestorm talk about their respective Gibson Journeys; Lzzy’s starting with a ’91 Tobacco Sunburst Les Paul Custom while Joe was bewitched by a wine-colored Les Paul Studio as a teenager.
Lzzy Hale and brother/drummer Arejay Hale started Halestorm in 1997 and later joined forces with guitarist Joe Hottinger and bassist Josh Smith. Halestorm has rocked hard, experimented, and evolved into one of the most successful, must-see-live rock quartets of the last decade. Their sound is heavy but sticky, gaining a steady and passionate following. Over 2 million rock fans regularly listen to Halestorm on streaming services like Spotify, and their live shows are the stuff of legend. They took home the 2013 GRAMMY® for best hard rock/metal performance for their hit single “Love Bites (So Do I)” and continue to evolve their sound and stagecraft. Lzzy and Joe’s complementary styles add vibrancy and pyrotechnic energy to their playing that’s made all the more symbiotic when they’re both plugged into their Gibsons. They fluidly write, play, and decide what parts are best suited for each of them, based on their years of intimate collaboration.
