Controlling stage volume can be helpful for many reasons including minimizing the chance of feedback as well as delivering a clearer mix for the audience. One way to help control stage volume is to run guitar amps at nominal level and put a mic on them allowing the mix engineer the ability to control the guitar volume level throughout the monitors and mains.
