Four Amp Fun! Vintage Hiwatt, Modern Sound City and the Fryette PL-IR

This is a companion video for The Malcontents S2, EP2 installment where we talk all about vintage Hiwatts and their modern Sound City counterparts. Here Joe sets all four amplifier’s controls to identical settings and then proceeds to play the exact same musical examples through each amp. While not exhaustive, this off-the-cuff test gives us a sonic baseline for the discussion that we’ll have this upcoming Saturday evening.

Guitar: Gibson Historic ’58 Les Paul w/stock pickups
Amps: 1974 Hiwatt DR-504, 1974 Hiwatt DR-103, Sound City Master Lead 50, Sound City Master One Hundred
Cab: Fryette PL-IR using an IR of a Sound City 4×12 cab loaded with Fane F70Gs and mic’d with an Shure SM57 and a Royer R-121
