In this easy-to-follow electric guitar tutorial, composer, educator and Elixir Strings artist Matt Wong shows a much more useful way to approach scales and incorporate them into improvised solos etc. Starting out with a simple three-note-per-string C major scale played up the fretboard, Matt then explores playing different intervallic patterns, which really helps to build the relationships between the notes of scale. Take things slow and steady and you’ll soon break out from the usual patterns and kick your solos into overdrive.
Knowing scales and practicing them up and down the neck is an important part of developing both your guitar technique and knowledge of the fretboard. But it can be a daunting prospect when you first start out, not to mention incredibly tedious if you’re just playing ascending and descending patterns.
