The MA-37 is David Royer’s take on the Sony C-37a; Sony’s first large diaphragm condenser microphone. Heralded by engineers as somewhat of a blend between a ribbon and condenser microphone, it’s been used on countless hit records since its release in 1955.
Coming up with the original design wasn’t easy! Sony’s engineers faced a series of component-sourcing setbacks and electrical engineering challenges. Learn more about the history of the C-37a and David’s recreation in this mini-documentary.
