On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by special guest Julien Cailleba to discuss AMP1’s position as the ultimate portable gigging rig for modern day working guitarist.
Julien is just that: originally hailing from France, he plays over 300 shows a year with functions and covers bands around the globe, from the European mainland to exotic locations like the Maldives and Morocco.
And, over time, Julien has to come create the perfect rig for a busy, constantly-working professional player – and it all starts with AMP1! When he began his role as a player in versatile pop covers bands, Julien first used an AMP1 together with a NANOCAB.
Over the years, this rig has grown and evolved into the ultimate setup, and it’s now a full stereo system built around two AMP1 Mercury Editions and two BluBOX units, all controlled via MIDI.
On the show, Julien will demonstrate his stereo rig and the advantages it gives him as a player and performer. Given his position as a covers player, Julien needs a setup that can give him any sound he might ever need at the tap of a footswitch – his current sets might take him from jazz, funk and Latino sounds to rock and metal within the space of two songs!
Thomas has does similar gigs in the past too, and the guys will exchange stories and tips based on their experiences. They’ll also dive into what a guitar player can do when confronted with pop sings that don’t even feature guitar parts! Put it this way, there’s always something you can play to elevate the musical mood!
This is set to be a really exciting and different AoT episode, where we stand to gain loads of useful knowledge from a serious working guitarist who’s proven over the years that he’s got everything it takes to excel in an ever-changing – and sometimes highly pressured – live environment.
