On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined once again by very special guest Mick Woll.
First, the guys will delve into clean sounds with different speaker simulations from the BluBOX, from jazzy funk sounds to the iconic Nile Rodgers sound, which is something of a specialist subject for Mick in his role as band leader for URBAN CLUB BAND: Mick’s a master of clean tones.
The guys will also take the AMP1 Mercury Edition into jazz territory and pass on all their tips from this challenging genre.
And that’s not all! Mick is also a full-on fuzz aficionado, and he’s bringing his personal collection of pedals to Saarbrücken to try out with Thomas! So, this is round two of the fuzz pedal shootout (after the first one in AoT Episode #53), and the guys will dive into everything from Eric Johnson’s warm, violin-like tones to plastic fuzziness and the sputty, saturated gated goodness of modern boutique stompboxes.
And, for all of you transistor nerds out there, Thomas will explain the two main different types used for fuzz pedals – silicon and Germanium – which are the basis for all the classic historical fuzz designs. Strap yourselves in for a fuzzy ride!
