On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by special guest Manuel Kettenring to take a detailed look at the many amazing guitar players who have been on 6-string duties for the Prince Of Darkness and godfather of metal himself, Ozzy Osbourne!
Since his days in Black Sabbath, Ozzy has had a revolving door of some of the greatest axe wielders of all time joining him on a series of legendary albums and tours. It all started with Tony Iommi in Sabbath, of course, but take a look at the other guitarists who have played with Ozzy over the years:
Randy Rhoads (1979-1982)
Bernie Tormé (1982)
Brad Gillis (1982)
Jake E. Lee (1982-1987)
Steve Vai (1994-1995)
Alex Skolnick (1995)
Joe Holmes (1995-1998, 2000)

So that’s a lot of legends to get through, but Thomas and Manuel will do their best! The guys will delve into guitar techniques and styles, and the equipment the guitarists used to bring Ozzy’s iconic heavy metal hits to life.
That means Gibson Les Pauls with Marshall Plexis, Les Paul Customs, Superstrats, Ibanez Jems with Marshall JCM800s, modified Marshalls, overdrives, choruses, wah pedals, and more! Thomas and Manuel will combine their collections to get as close to the original sounds as they can, and of course Thomas will also be bringing the AMP1 Mercury and Iridium Editions to the party as well to see how they hold up when playing these tunes.
