Talking to most people about audio mastering is like talking to people about quantum mechanics. You may get a vague idea of the general topic, but you’re more likely to be confused and you definitely won’t have any workable knowledge when the conversation is done.
This book changes that. It lays out a clear overview of what mastering is and step by step achievable ways to do it well. And it’s written in clear and easy to understand language. I feel like I finally have a grip on a process that I have been slightly confused about for years.
If you are a DIY musician, this is a must have for making your music sound professional. And for the pros and semi-pros out there who are sending their mixes off to be mastered by someone else, this is a great book for understanding what good mastering entails and what to expect and listen for in approving your final masters. And if you’re already involved in the mixing process (you should be – don’t leave that all up to your engineer!), this book will make mastering your demos something you can do yourself.
