On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas and Rich are having a cab party! Lots of us just tend to use one cab and not think too much about it… but cabs and speakers are a crucial part of our tone. So, the goal of this episode will be to work out what works best for what situation, and how a combination of cabs can affect your sound.
We’ll have a NANOCAB, FATCAB and TWINCAB on-hand to demonstrate the differences, and Thomas will discuss that all-important issue of guitar cabinet impedance. Which cabs can you use together, and what are the reasons for doing so? Thomas will also talk about some of his favorite speakers, the speakers in BluGuitar amps, and the question of where and how to best place your cab to get the best tonal results in any venue.
The guys will also discuss Jack Gardiner’s@Jack Gardiner new BluGuitar video – Jack recently got an AMP1 Mercury Edition and takes us through the amp’s four channels in his unique style!
Plus, it’s musical legend – and Thomas’s friend and counterpart in the Thomas Blug Band – Thijs van Leer! To finish the show, Thomas will be doing a feature to celebrate this amazing musician and his chart-scaling career so far. Thijs spent over a decade playing in the Thomas Blug Band, and he and Thomas recorded two albums together. An internationally known virtuoso on the organ and the flute, Thijs is also an incredible yodeler and was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2008 for special services to music. Perhaps his best-known achievement, though, is being a founding member of Focus, whose big hit Hocus Pocus he co-wrote.
