Academy Of Tone #61: the story of Thomas’ ’61 Strat PLUS special guest Mick Taylor from That Pedal Show! @That Pedal Show
On this week’s Academy Of Tone – episode 61 – Thomas celebrates his iconic ‘61 Fender Stratocaster and more!
It’s our first live show at the new BluGuitar video studio, and what way to celebrate a new studio than with an old guitar?! Thomas will tell the story of his most famous instrument – which coincidentally also happens to be 61 years old this year! – and explain how it has changed, aged and been modified over the decades he’s owned it.
He’ll also talk about the music that has been inspired by and played with this guitar, the worldwide tours it’s been on, and the guitars that are based on it: his No. 2 Fender guitar, his Vintage brand signature instruments, and his BluGuitar ‘61 Masterbuilt series.
And, of course, all this in conjunction with why Strat is such a great fit with AMP1! Thomas will also have a second all-original 1961 Strat in the studio and his mint condition 1964 Strat which he will shoot out against his ‘61 to show off the differences, and the similarities.
And in keeping with the Strat theme, there’s more heroes to discuss – Thomas will delve into Rory Gallagher and his beloved ’61, and we’ll look at Gary Moore’s Red Stratocaster too – yes, Gary Moore played a Strat 🙂
Thomas will also be joined for part of the show by an extremely special guest – Mick here, from That Pedal Show! Mick is another well-known and celebrated Stratocaster fanatic, and will join Thomas from his home in England to discuss all things Strat, and more.
Finally, it’s Jeff Beck’s birthday – the legendary British guitar virtuoso turns 77 on June 24th. Thomas will pay – and play – tribute to this Strat legend with some stories and a special performance.
