Academy Of Tone #63: secret tips and tricks to unleash the full tonal potential of your AMP1!
On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas dives below the surface of AMP1 to show you a number of practical – yet simple – tips and tricks you can use to really maximize your guitar tone and take your amp game to the next level!
AMP1 might be a simple and easy amplifier to dial in, but today Thomas sheds further light on the amp’s incredible versatility and gives you all the info you need to get any sound you could ever want from yours… including some you wouldn’t even expect to find hidden within!
It all starts with a bit of theory, of course – you need to know the basics before you can get the most out of your setup. Thomas will explain the gain structure of amplifiers, as well as the differences between pre EQ and post EQ and the treble bleed effect, and how these can be used to achieve different tones. In this part of the show, Thomas will simply use an AMP1 Mercury Edition and show you how to recreate some iconic guitar tones using just the CLEAN, VOLUME, and GAIN controls. He’ll also show you how to tweak this slightly more using the amp’s low-gain mode!
After this, it’s time to expand further, and Thomas will introduce REMOTE1 – BluGuitar’s handy AMP1 foot controller – to help open up a huge range of legendary guitar sounds at the touch of a button, as well as how to tune your AMP1’s low-gain mode.
This way, we can cover pretty much any sound you might need with an AMP1 (in this case a Mercury Edition) and REMOTE1, and Thomas will go through the following on the AMP1’s four channels:

• Straight cleans for single coils and humbuckers
• Edge of breakup cleans for single coils and humbuckers

• Stevie Ray Vaughan tones
• Juicy lead tones for humbuckers
• Classic rock tones for single coils and humbuckers
• Classic lead sounds for single coils and humbuckers
Classic Channel:
• Blues sounds for single coils
• Bluesy leads for humbuckers
• Classic rock tones for single coils and humbuckers
• Modern rock tones for single coils and humbuckers
Modern Channel:
• Classic rock and fusion tones for single coils and humbuckers
• Creamy lead tones for single coils and humbuckers
• Classic high gain tones for single coils and humbuckers
• Metal tones for humbuckers
• High gain metal tones for humbuckers
