Video by BluGuitar – Tone Innovation For Guitarists via YouTube Source
On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by very special guest Frank Nimsgern! Frank and Thomas go way back, having known each other since their school days in Saarland, Germany, and the two have both gone on to wildly successful – but considerably different – musical careers.
You know all about Thomas and his achievements. Frank has often moved in slightly different musical circles, and is an award-winning musician, composer, producer and artistic director, and one of the new representatives of contemporary European musical theater. He’s also an avid AMP1 player, and his rig with the amp and a FATCAB have become a crucial part of his guitar sound in recent years.
More than two million people have been to see Frank’s musicals – which include Der Ring, Witches Snowhite and Paradise of Pain – and he’s written over two dozen film scores and plenty of music for hit TV shows, including the theme tube to Siegfried & Roy! From 1994-1996, he worked for Chaka Khan as musical director and guitarist, and he’s also worked with the likes of Anna Netrebko, Gino Vannelli, Billy Cobham, The Supremes, Klaus Doldinger, Pete York, John Lord, Mark Seibert and Ralph Siegel, among others.
So Thomas and Frank have a lot to discuss, and a lot of music to make together! They’ll play a bunch on the show and will go through Frank’s top AMP1 sounds, with an extra added focus on cabs – Frank is a big FATCAB fan, as mentioned before. Thomas will also demonstrate the trick with removing the back of the NANOCAB to achieve different tones!

Explaining and solving "Mystery Squeal #2" is the objective in this riveting episode of our series on the Power Station. Let’s eliminate ground loops! See downloadable signal/ground flow charts here:
The Fryette Power Station® – a new amplifier attenuator and re-amplification solution, offering players intuitive and precise control over amplifier volume, distortion behavior and a wide range of highly refined tonal qualities previously unavailable from any single attenuating or re-amping product.
Built on decades of experience producing the finest all-tube power amps available, the Power Station is a practical and highly functional tool that solves problems frequently encountered in live playing and recording environments. It beautifully accentuates the inherent qualities of any amplifier and allows your amplifier to breathe and dynamically respond to your playing technique the way a great guitar amp should. The Power Station is designed to be transparent, user friendly, reliable and ultra-responsive to a wide array of guitar amplifier and speaker types. It also integrates seamlessly with any combination of internal and external speaker configurations.
The Power Station also excels as a power booster, something that no other attenuator can do. Just as you would connect a big amp to reduce output volume, the Power Station can also be used to boost the output of a small amplifier. Imagine taking your mini-amp or small vintage combo to a gig and having enough power to be heard without sacrificing feel and tonal quality. It is not only possible, but easy and fun!
Finally, your Power Station functions as a versatile silent reactive load for direct recording by simply connecting the Balanced or Unbalanced Line out to your recording interface.
