Mighty Oaks' Go-To Sphere L22 Microphone Models

Learn more about the Sphere L22 and the included collection of 34 faithfully modeled microphones today: https://bit.ly/3fnHMGx

What are the go-to microphone models for Mighty Oaks and how do they get a record-ready sound with a minimalist setup? The chart-topping folk band from Germany recently released their fourth studio album "Mexico". For the first time, they recorded the majority of vocals and instruments in their home studio with the help of the Sphere L22 Microphone Modeling System.

Among their favorite microphone models are the LD-12 for upright piano and the RB-4038 for acoustic guitar and drums. Both microphone models are part of Sphere’s included Core Collection. In addition, the BP-251A modeled from the UAD Putnam Collection is lead singer Ian Hooper’s go-to choice for his vocals. Mighty Oaks’ signal chain is complemented by Universal Audio Unison technology preamp plug-ins, such as the Neve 1073 and UA 610-b.

Have an inside look at Mighty Oaks’ recording process here: https://bit.ly/3oOUlhm

The Sphere® system consists of the high precision dual-channel L22 microphone, which, when paired with the included Sphere plug-in (UAD, VST, AU, AAX Native & DSP), accurately models the response of a wide range of mics, including transient response, harmonics, proximity effect, and multi-dimensional polar response. Unlock the authentic tones of an expanding collection including 34 of recording history’s finest microphones.

With Sphere you can:
✔ Record with the sound of microphones many have only dreamt about
✔ Change mic type, polar pattern, and other microphone characteristics, even after tracking!
✔ Audition the sound of different microphones without tiring the vocalist
✔ Reduce bleed, undesirable room coloration, and other common issues using Off-Axis Correction™
✔ Record in stereo from a single microphone

South Windsor, CT, October 2021 – Alt Rock favorites Toad The Wet Sprocket dropped in at TELEFUNKEN headquarters in Connecticut during their recent tour. The band filmed three songs for the company’s “Live From The Lab” series and tried out TELEFUNKEN’s new 2022 TEC Award-nominated TF11 FET condenser mics on guitars, in addition to performing with their stock of M80 dynamic mics for vocals.

Founder, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Glen Philips commented on the M80 vocal mics, “Our soundman has been switching me from mic to mic over the last few years, trying out some of the top brands in the market, but this year he brought out the M80 and we’re loving it – it’s totally responsive to my mic technique and he’s been using a fraction of the EQ he used to use. It’s a great mic, really clear in my ear, and he likes the bleed better when I step away.”

The band’s FOH engineer John Edman explained, “I’ve been working with Toad The Wet Sprocket and Glen Phillips for the last 5 years and this year I introduced the M80 for Glen to try out at rehearsals for the current tour we’re on and I received positive feedback from Glen. For starters, I didn’t need to EQ like before and I also found that the bottom was natural sounding and smoother with less of a proximity rise. The M80s off axis leakage sounded very natural, as if the mic had an omni quality to it without it being omni. A great mic for a great voice.”

Toad the Wet Sprocket has just wrapped up a US headline tour, in support of their new studio album Starting Now, and will be on tour again through 2022.
