As drummers, we all know the incredible feeling we get when we sit down behind a kit and play! Just about the only thing that can heighten that feeling is getting to play with other musicians and create something together! We caught up Chad and Jason after their performance to talk about what went into creating their recent Zildjian Collaboration.
Stay tuned for future collaborations from our Zildjian Family of Artists.

My name is Ben Hilzinger and this weekโs guest is Lina Anderberg. I found out about Lina through her Instagram (@linaanderberg) and I was immediately blown away. Sheโs originally from Sweden, but moved to LA to attend Musicians Institute right before all of the world shut down. It was quite the frustrating story dealing with all that and she is currently in Stockholm waiting for her opportunity to get back to the states. In the meantime, I was really excited to pick her brain because she has an incredible pocket and, at the top of the show, I oogle over her hand technique. I actually had to cut some of it out because I just wouldnโt move on, but I guarantee Lina is going to be playing with some amazing artists in the future and I canโt wait to see her career continue to flourish. Please enjoy my conversation with Lina Anderberg on the top influences that made her into the drummer she is today. Cheeerrrssss.

Todayโs guest is one of my favorite people, Scott McPherson. Scott founded Tackle Instrument Supply Company and was one of our first guests EVER on the podcast back when we had a different name and a different / no format. Back then, I did a series of episodes called โBehind The Companyโ and brought Scott on the show to tell the story of Tackleโฆsoooo go check that out; itโs episode #12. In that conversation, we merely scratched the surface of Scottโs amazing drummer career (focusing mainly on his business), but Scottโs also written / performed with Sense Field, M. Ward, She and Him, Beck, Elliot Smith and many, many more. Please enjoy my conversation with Scott McPherson as we discuss the top 5 influences that made him into the drummer he is today.

The ZILDJIAN WORKOUT project was created to give YOU the opportunity to "learn-while-you-drum" along with the top Zildjian artists. Covering three levels of technical demand, each video will cover several exercises that will not only help you improve your fundamental skills, but also expose you to the drumming philosophies of some of today’s master instructors!
In the FINAL episode of a three part series for improving your jazz independence, John Riley challenges you to play the 1, 2 & 3 note rhythm patterns left foot while filling in the triplet with the snare. Then John plays the rhythm patterns in the left hand while filling in the triplets in the bass drum .
If this exercise is a little much for you, go back to John’s Level ONE and TWO workouts and master the basics first!
You can download the PDF for this workout and check out other Zildjian Workouts at:

My guest this week is Mr. Jojo Mayerโฆa mind-blowing player who helped pioneer the drum n bass movement in New York City by โreverse engineeringโ programmed drum loops and applying them to the drum set. He is also revered for his exceptional technique, which he dissects in the wildly-popular instructional series titled โSecret Weapons For The Modern Drummer Parts 1 & 2โ. He is also the leader of his own band, Nerve, which he founded back in 1997. We donโt necessarily stick to the normal format in this one; Jojo is a great storyteller. We start off with a few anecdotes about a cymbal once-owned by Billy Higgins that Jojo picked up by happenstance AND Jojoโs time spent โstudyingโ with Freddy Gruber, but we certainly touch on a lot of Jojoโs opinions / perspectives regarding accepting influences, but knowing when theyโre actually a detriment to your personal growth on the instrument. Heโs a very philosophical man and he shares quite a few nuggets of slap-you-in-the-face style wisdom. Please go check out all of his projects and, if youโre interested, check out Nerveโs Patreon HERE. I hope you enjoy my talk with Jojo Mayer.

Our all-new PurpleCore technology enables exceptional resonance and attack, along with lower pitch and a lower fundamental note. These 9-ply shells feature cherry plies composed entirely from vertical or short grain veneer. The central three plies are Purpleheart with only one horizontal or long grain veneer. By using more short-grain plies, we accomplish unprecedented low-end. And by using Purpleheart as the core, we maintain structural integrity while maximizing low end resonance and precise attack.
